The kind of place
that changes
your pace.

You hear it before you see it.
Big Creek runs cold and fast — a constant sound that becomes the rhythm of every morning here.
An amazing display of Mother Nature's artistry.

A note on the falls trail
Just up the road, an unmarked trail takes you to Big Creek Falls. That trail crosses into National Forest land. No maintained path. Questionable signage. Just follow the sounds to the waterfall. Be prepared for thick brush and steep embankment.
Big Creek running through the woods behind Lotts of Sky

Cold, clear, and loud enough to hear from the deck.
There's a trail from the house down to the water — thick rhododendrons in places, but not a long hike.
Wade in. Skip rocks. Follow it upstream.

Autumn colour across the mountains near Highlands, North Carolina

Color comes to the highlands earlier than anywhere else in the South.
Late September the ridgelines start to turn. By mid-October the drive in is reason enough to come.
The air sharpens. The crowds thin. The mountain does its best work.
This is why people book a year in advance.

The house decorated for Christmas

Lotts of Sky was made for this.
A long table set for everyone. A fire going before anyone asks.
The kind of Christmas morning where there's nowhere else anyone would rather be.
The property sleeps seventeen — enough room for every branch of the family, with space left over to breathe.
Book early. The holidays fill first.
